Child Protection and Safety

Victoria has introduced new Child Protection legislation which comes into effect for all schools on the 1st of August 2016. The Good Shepherd Lutheran Primary School has a zero tolerance for all forms of child abuse and is committed to providing a safe environment for all students. Good Shepherd has updated and developed policies and procedures to ensure compliance with the new legislation. Staff members at the School will also receive additional training in the area of child protection and safety.

One obligation of the new Victorian Child Safe Standards is the appointment of a School Child Protection Officer. Ms Jacinta Fry, our Coordinator of Counselling and Wellbeing has been appointed to this role. The School Child Protection Officer can be contacted at School on 9725 8255. Ms Fry is available to parents, students, staff members and volunteers should they have any concerns or questions about child protection and safety. Serious concerns for a child’s immediate safety should be directed to the Police by contacting 000. DHHS for the Eastern Region can also be contacted on 1300 360 391.

The new Child Protection and Safety Laws place greater responsibility on all members of the school community to report child abuse and to address child safety concerns. Good Shepherd continues to work together with our school community to cultivate a culture and an environment that promotes child safety. Good Shepherd’s policies and procedures are reviewed on a regular basis, with the aim of providing the best possible care for the students of our school. If you do have any questions regarding the new Victorian Child Safe Standards, or the subsequent changes to School policies and procedures, please do not hesitate to contact Jacinta Fry on 9725 8255 or
