In Year 6, our topic for Science has been ‘Sustainability’. As Environmental Captains, this is a very important issue. For this unit we have participated in a number of experiments, including analysing GSLPS rubbish. You might think this is extremely gross, however, for us it was very interesting as we saw how much rubbish we dispose of in just one week. Seeing this much rubbish from one week made us think about the world and how much rubbish humans dispose of each year. Year 6 students want to make a difference and they are already changing their behaviour; we think this is outstanding! We had to a make poster and an informative movie about the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. There were a number of issues we examined and learnt about including our eco-footprint and palm oil. Finally, we created compost in a bottle to demonstrate the importance of reusing goods and caring for our world, making sure nature and animals have well-nourished soil.
We hope this encourages you to think and act sustainably. If you need any advice please come and see one of our Environmental Captains.
